I may be a bit biased in this review because I adore Mexican food. When I moved to Newport, I was sorely disappointed with the limited selection of Mexican restaurants available, but then I found Loca. The management describes themselves as offering "Creative Mexican Cuisine", however I'm not sure how Burritos, Chimichangas and Enchiladas can be described as 'creative'.
Loca has a fun, fiesta style atmosphere, good home made chips and salsa, decent house margaritas with a large selection of tequilas, and pretty good food (well, as far as Newport goes). Service is pretty good as well (again...as far as Newport goes).
Even on a completely off-night - Tuesday in the dead of winter - one would think you would get overly-attentive service, but instead, it was only OK.
It's been a while since I've been to the bar scene there, but when it's happening (which is mostly in the summer), it was pretty happening, with good drinks, good music, and a nice crowd of people. Stay tuned for a bar review this summer...
I'm not really too sure what else to say about Loca...there's really nothing too spectacular here, but it's the best place in Newport to satisfy that Mexican food craving. I give it a solid 'meh'.
