Seaweed is Gone ~ Thank God!
The beach looks great now that the seaweed is gone. But what is more impressive is the deal on the Twin Lobster Rolls at the Snack Bar. $10.99 for TWO? Wow, and they taste great. You have to try them. I know what you're thinking...good food at a Beach Snack Bar??? Yup....it's true.

Easton's Beach WAS being polluted by Middletowns sewer over flows and heavy rain The DEM forced Middletown to repair the lines and update the pumps. Now the only time there might be an over flow is when there is over 2" of rain in a short period of time. The seaweed moves with the tide but most of the time there are plenty of clear areas. The Beach has purchased a $300,000 collecter to move through the water picking up seaweed and will be in operation this summer. In addition the beach is raked every morning.

The Snack Bar Opened in May how can it be reviewed in March? They are not you average snack bar. They serve Great twin Lobster Rolls with FF for $10.99. They also serve Fish & Chips and Fried clams. The menu is reasonably priced and offers wraps, pizza, salads and more. The web site www.eastonsbeach.com has live web cams, beach reports and all the information you need to plan your day at the beach.

“A great beach, if you've never been to a great beach”

Easton's Beach is perhaps one of the biggest let-downs in Newport. Despite being the perfect location for a beach, everything about this one is lack luster to say the least. The sand is almost always infested with seaweed... I don't mean a few pieces here and there... I mean a football field long, 20 feet wide and 5 inch thick deposits of sea filth right next to your chair and umbrella. If you can imagine that, imagine what that makes the water like... and it's not JUST seaweed... it's seaweed with bugs in it that's rotting and stinks like sulfur. You'll commonly find a lot of seaweed at almost all of the beaches on the island, but this one is by far the worst.

The funny thing too is that this is by far the most crowded beach on the Island. If swimming with hundreds of people on a summer's day doesn't appeal to you, how about swimming with hundreds of people and your own shit? That's right, there is a pipe that travels out from 1st beach unloading last night's dinner into the ocean. This past year they actually closed the beach due a rupture in the pipe and the increase in fecal content. Yummy.

Another thing that blows is that the price for parking is outrageous! Take it from me, and let me give you the inside scoop. At the top of Memorial Blvd., there are many side streets with on street parking. If you don't mind carrying all your stuff down the hill to the beach, this might be the spot for you. I've have always found a spot up there, even on the 4th of July.

The food at the concession stand is pure filth, but you do have a really great option just across the street at Flo's Clam Shack. Even though Flo's is technically in Middletown, the Newport Scoop highly recommends it. I really want to give First beach an upside down scoop, but the view, location, and proximity to decent restaurants salvages this experience.
